With the OUA regular season winding down it’s an interesting weekend in the National Capital Region. I’m going skating on the Rideau Canal, finishing a public economics assignment and then maybe taking a little bit of me time. This grad school stuff is kind of heavy at times. Know what I mean Vern?
What? Oh, right, basketball blog.
Uhhh, it’s also an interesting weekend for the Ravens and Gee-Gees as RMC (aka fewer wins than the Knicks) and Queen’s try to smuggle some wins out of the city. Like the French connection but rather more hopeless if you ask me. Anyhow, as i reported last weekend, Josh Gisbon-Bascombe suffered a knee injury in the last moments of the game against Toronto that looked pretty bad.
Turns out it was. This leaves the Gee-Gees pretty shorthanded (with Jacob GB (aka JGB Jr) done with a broken foot, David Labentowicz playing on a broken foot for the last two weeks and Sean Peter still with a hip injury) and leaves their playoff outlook pretty bleak. If you do the math (finally, math without matrix algebra!) only deux of Ottawa’s top six are healthy. Not the scenario you want heading into the playoffs.
Sticking my next out, I’m guessing that Ottawa will drop tonight’s game against Queen’s (what the hell is a Golden Gael anyhow?) but still manage to rollover RMC. Given that the Gee-Gees took a break during the game against RMC in Kingston to order food for the trip home i’m pretty sure that they’ll walk away with the game tomorrow. Carleton will continue to roll on.
As for the playoffs? Unless JGB heals quickly or the Gee-Gee go on a Hollywood movieesque run I don’t think they’ll be challenging for a spot at Nationals from the OUA. Always hope of landing the lottery spot though.
